Prayer Update — 07.02.09

  1. Today we are one step closer to selling our house.  We learned this morning that the bank approved the loan for the house for our buyer.  This is the news we’ve been waiting for.  Praise the Lord!  Lord willing, we will be closing on the house early next week.
  2. Early next week is none too soon to close on our house.   On Thursday, July 9th we’re scheduled to load up a couple of vehicles with the remainder of our furniture and boxes and make the move to Texas.  Please pray for us as we have many things to do here to prepare for our departure.
  3. Last Saturday we finished up our final responsibilities at the university.  I was privileged to preach the graduation ceremony for our linguistics, business administration, and education majors.  It was a joyful (and tearful) time of looking back on God’s grace to us here and of looking to the future.  We were overwhelmed with gratitude as we heard many testimonies from students and others of how the Lord has used our ministry here in Monterrey to touch people’s lives.
  4. On Sunday we participated in our final service at New Life Baptist Church.  The church planned a special service and dinner for us.  We enjoyed a joyful but tearful time of fellowship and testimonies.  Please pray that God’s grace and blessing will be upon this young church as it continues to grow and serve the Lord.
  5. If any of you are interested, over on my blog, Gratia et Veritas, I’ve posted information on TETM’s annual mission conference to be held in Dalton, GA in October.  We would love to see you there!

Missions Quote:

The following is an excerpt from the letter that Adoniram Judson, missionary to Burma, wrote to his future father-in-law requesting his daughter’s hand in marriage:

Judson“I have now to ask whether you can consent to part with your daughter early next spring, to see her no more in this world ? whether you can consent to her departure to a heathen land, and her subjection to the hardships and sufferings of a missionary life? whether you can consent to her exposure to the dangers of the ocean; to the fatal influence of the southern climate of India; to every kind of want and distress; to degradation, insult, persecution, and perhaps a violent death? Can you consent to all this, for the sake of Him who left His heavenly home and died for her and for you; for the sake of perishing, immortal souls; for the sake of Zion and the glory of God? Can you consent to all this, in hope of soon meeting your daughter in the world of glory, with a crown of righteousness brightened by the acclamations of praise which shall redound to her Saviour from heathens saved, through her means, from eternal woe and despair?”

It is amazing that Ann accepted Adoniram’s proposal.  It is even more amazing that her father conceded to the proposal after receiving this letter from Judson.

That the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy…
